Say No to Driving Under the Influence. Make the call. Have a Designated Driver. Never Drive Drunk.
"On July 14, 1984, Congress and President Ronald Reagan enacted legislation that set the national minimum legal drinking age at 21. This year, we celebrate the 27th anniversary of the passage of that lifesaving law.
The 21 Minimum Legal Drinking Age (MLDA) has contributed to significant declines in fatalities on and off the road. Nearly 1,000 lives are saved each year by this legislation." Continue reading here.
In 2003, I was hit with the loss of a really good friend from high school who was killed in a drunk driving accident. It was a terrible accident and a terrible blow. Another good friend was the driver. I wish they had stopped and made a phone call or decided to spend the night somewhere, instead of trying to drive home. That night one life was ended, another was altered, and many more saddened with grief and loss. I still really miss my friend and have never forgotten her. I get really angry when I hear of anyone trying to get into a car after having drunk alcohol. It's simply something that shouldn't be done. They are accidents that can be avoided.
Below is a video of an awesome young woman named Brittany Kirby, that I met in my Nail Polish and Gossip group on Facebook. She was the victim of a drunk driver. As was a young mother who sadly died. Also, in our group and not part of the video, Kari Murphy's husband lost several family member's to a drunk driver. You can read about it here.
~~~This year, 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes - one every 50 minutes.~~~
Many lives are ruined every year by the combination of alcohol and driving. People need to be made aware that it is not okay to drink and drive. I believe, society is some what aware that it is not okay, but we push the issue to the back of our minds. We somehow, even find it socially acceptable. Otherwise, why would it be okay for people like Lindsay Lohan, Brittney Spears, President Bush, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, and Vivica Fox to get off so lightly with their D.U.I offenses. Some of them repeat offenders. Some of them have hurt other people. IT IS NOT OK TO DRIVE DRUNK!!! IT NEVER IS!!! ALL DRUNK DRIVING ACCIDENTS ARE ACCIDENTS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED!!! THEY ARE NEEDLESS!!!
Anyway. The women and man of our group decided to do red manicures to support the cause and raise awareness for M.A.D.D. That is Mother's Against Drunk Driving, one of the biggest organizations in America. Read more here. The following pictures show my red Mani, The red from Color Club's All About Color Collection, I don't know the name. 2 Coats. With one coat of my homemade fractured Holo Top coat.
